14 days - Botswana Wild Parks | accommodated
Starts in Johannesburg to Victoria Falls | South-Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe

This tour is also available from Maun (13 day tour) or as a camping tour.

An accommodated safari through Botswana. Experience the vast Magadikgadi pans, the Okavango Delta by traditional dug-outs and the abundant wildlife of Moremi game reserve. Explore Chobe NP by boat and enjoy wonderful views of Victoria Falls!
Botswana is considered Southern Africa’s premier game viewing destination. But it is also known as a very expensive destination. However by using a range of affordable lodges we offer a fully accommodated tour of Botswana at a value for money price.

(B=breakfast, L=lunch D=dinner)
Departing Johannesburg at 06:30am we head north into Botswana and the Khama Rhino Sanctuary. The Khama Rhino Sanctuary Trust is a community based wildlife project established in 1992 to assist in saving the vanishing rhino, restore an area formerly teeming with wildlife to its previous natural state and provide economic benefits to the local Botswana community through tourism and the sustainable use of natural resources. This reserve situated on the Kalahari sandveld, has several natural waterholes and provides prime habitat for white rhino, zebra and wildebeest.

Day 2 MAUN [lodge BL-]
We drive through the Kalahari to Maun, the gateway to the Okavango Delta. Since Maun’s founding in 1915 as the capital of the Batawana people, it has had a reputation as a hard-living ‘Wild West’ town helping the local cattle ranching and safari operations. The name Maun is derived from the San word ‘maung’, which translates ‘the place of short reeds’.

Day 3 - 4 OKAVANGO DELTA [tented camp x2 BLD]
We drive into the Okavango Delta to our remote tented camp in the heart of the largest inland delta in the world. This amazing environment has large numbers of red lechwe, buffalo, elephant and birds, particularly kingfishers! One of the best experiences in the Okavango Delta is to be poled along reed lined channels in a mokoro (dug out canoe). Sit back and relax as the water gurgles gently under the mokoro while your skilled poker points out the fauna and flora.

Day 5, 6, 7, 8 MOREMI [3x tented bushlodge, 1x lodge Bx4 Lx4 Dx3]
We take an open 4WD into Moremi Game Reserve for fantastic game viewing! Chief’s Island is the largest landmass within Moremi and was the Batswana tribe’s richest hunting ground, before being declared a game reserve by the tribe. We spend 4 days on game drives watching the abundant wildlife including elephant, hippo, buffalo, lion & other game, both in Moremi Game Reserve and in private concession reserves surrounding the park. We return to Maun midday on day 8 for an evening restaurant meal (own expenses).

Day 9 MAKGADIKGADI PANS [tented lodge or chalets BL -]
We have time for an optional game flight over the Okavango before we head to Nata. The shimmering saltpans of Makgadikgadi appear as a glaring white, endless plain. When the rain comes a dramatic change takes place as thousands of wildebeest and zebra migrate to the sweet nutritious grasslands and clouds of flamingo feed in its algae rich waters. It is an area of low rainfall so this spectacle only lasts a short while.

Day 10 – 11 CHOBE NATIONAL PARK [lodge BL -]
The Chobe River is a stunning feature of Botswana and will be the focus of our lodge stay. The Chobe River flows lazily along the northern boundary of the Chobe National Park attracting some of the largest herds of elephant in Africa. Early morning 4WD game drive in the Chobe National Park and an afternoon game viewing “sundowner” cruise to see the mighty elephant herds return to the Chobe River to quench their thirst.

Day 12 – 13 VICTORIA FALLS (ZIMBABWE) [hotel Bx2 - -]
We visit “Mosi oa Tunya” or “the smoke that thunders” - Victoria Falls. These magnificent falls are one of the seven natural wonders of the world. The Victoria Falls Bridge was commissioned by Cecil John Rhodes in 1900, and was completed by 1905, although Rhodes never lived to see it. It spans the impressive gorge and the famous adrenalin pumping Victoria Falls bungi jump is done from this bridge, with a terrifying drop of 360ft (111m). Opportunities to white water raft on the mighty Zambezi River, bungi jump, or take a “flight of angels” (own expense).

Tour ends after breakfast at 08:00am at the hotel.

We have chosen this African partner for their commitment to sustainable and responsible African safari tourism. This is reflected in their low impact travel style and as an African company, they have the grassroots contacts to make a real difference in the lives of the people whose communities you will visit. They have over 20 years’ experience and offer only small group tours with no single supplements (there is only an extra charge involved if you insist on the accommodated tour to have your own hotel room).

Our two guides (Brian as the tour guide und Ngande as our guide in the Moremi Game Reserve) have both a big knowledge of nature, wildlife and culture etc. and were always more than happy to share that knowledge and answer whatever questions we had. Also they made us always feel safe. They are both very professional & experienced and respected wildlife, nature & people a lot! (It´s really appreciated that this is really lived and not only a marketing slogan! And I believe, that they are both personally convinced by that and not simply follow a company-policy.) Both did a fantastic job! Our two drivers (Mike and Lister) did a wonderful job in bringing us safe and on time from A to B. Even on the partially more than bumpy roads with a lot of animals next to or even on the roads... Thanks a lot for that! All of them – guides and drivers – cared a lot, were always interested in all the group members personally and made the whole journey feel like a big family trip :-). It was a pleasure travelling with them. We had a lot of fun whilst exploring Africa. You can be really proud of your team members. They are all very engaged, professional and really nice people – and that makes a big difference :-). The Safari Truck is perfectly equipped with everything you need for such a trip. The accomodations were all nice and some had a much higher standard than expected (e.g. Nata Lodge and Hyena Pan Bushlodge → really beautiful!!!).”
Best regards

The holiday was awesome! Sunway couldn’t be faulted and everything went without a hassle. The guesthouse worked wonderfully….they are very nice people! The other 7 people on the safari were great…the group got on incredibly well! The guides were excellent also. People wise it couldn’t have been better either. The delta was amazing and so was Hyena Pan!! The whole trip was not as ‘rough’ as we expected and was the perfect balance of variety for our family….a bit of rough at the delta and luxury at Hyena Pan. We saw a cheetah with big cubs and a leopard with little cubs, wild dogs, and or course all the rest of the list.”

HI Sunway Safaris, I just wanted to email to tell you what a fantastic time we had on our safari of Botswana to Vic Falls. It was amazing. The accommodation was perfect, the food was great and the scenery and wildlife were amazing. We saw alot of wildlife including elephants, giraffe, wild dogs, zebra, buffalo, 2 lions to name a few. A memorable moment was seeing a leopard with her 2 cubs which we followed for a good half hour or so in Moremi. That was amazing! Also seeing a pack of dogs killing an impala.”

The holiday was very well run by the local operator Sunway Safaris. Their 2 guides Phumi and Paul were just superb!! The meals they prepared were always excellent and they were continuously anxious to ensure we had a brilliant experience. The first 2 days consisted of a lot of driving of which Phumi did a great job. The highlight of the tour was the Okavango Delta – what a beautiful place!! The camping there was very comfortable and all the other accommodations was excellent. One must mention the people of the area – so friendly, happy to chat and talk about their lives. The local guides were of variable quality, but not as good as our own 2 guides who usually knew much more than they did about the animal we were seeing. Our guide in Moremi and Chobe were excellent. Finally to the animals – exciting encounters with such beautiful animals, sometimes at very close range was just so amazing..

Great travel agency. Quick response to all questions. And, because the agents know Africa, they gave me great advice as to where to go and where to avoid based on my preferences. African Travels made planning my six- week journey into southern Africa not only interesting, but also easy.

During our recent trip throughout Southern Africa we took an overland wild parks safari from Joburg to Victoria Falls with your company from June 6th through the 20th. The purpose of this letter to inform you of how pleased my family was with our experience, and specifically our two guides, Lloyd and Paul. Lloyd is not only very intelligent and knowledgeable about Southern Africa and its wildlife, but also has the maturity and wonderful people skills that are critical to creating and managing a team of strangers with diverse expectations. Paul is also very knowledgeable of Southern Africa wildlife and was a valued resource in addition to having an energetically positive personality and contagious smile. Together their synergy rivaled such effective teams as Batman & Robin! All kidding aside, we would like to express our gratitude to them for being such a huge part responsible for our wonderful vacation in Southern Africa. We have friends who are considering vacations in Southern Africa and we have recommended the use of your company for their safaris. Please do pass along our thanks to both Lloyd and Paul for a memorable experience

Have just returned from a trip through Botswana and it was in one word fantastic!
African Travels has set a whole trip varied in its offerings; both somewhat crowded by tourists places like Victoria Falls, as well as nature parks, where you will not see anyone else for days (!): camping in the Okavango Delta, walking and swimming is a wilderness experience that is only possible with a local guide who knows all about the animals, their behavior - but also invite you to the roots of water lilies eating while standing on a safe swimming spot without hippos and crocs.
Furthermore unforgettable Hyena Pan lodge in the Moremi National Park, where in the morning a curious elephant can surprise you in front of your tent. Where the jackals walk around your tents at night.
I have incredible enjoyed this trip and responded perfectly to my expectations! Many thanks for that to African Travels!
