During the Covid-19 pandemic, most of the border posts between South Africa and Mozambique were closed, including Giryondo. It was recently reopened. It is a small border crossing, popular with 4×4 enthusiasts, and must be done in a solid 4×4 vehicle. Tourists using this border crossing must also stayover a minimum of 1 night, in either Kruger or Limpopo National Park. We recently did this trip, and can confirm that the dirt road through the Limpopo National Park is very bumpy, and in need of some maintenance.
