New eVisa Kenya must be obtained in advance

1 July 2015

If you are visiting Kenya on or after 01 September 2015 you must obtain your eVisa in advance via the online portal www.ecitizen.go.ke.

We have received notice of new visa processing requirements for travellers visiting Kenya which become effective this week on 02 July 2015. The Kenyan Immigration has introduced a new facility allowing visitors to apply for their visas in advance online. The new facility will become mandatory later in the year but there is a transition period where visitors have the choice of how to apply.

If you are visiting Kenya before 31 August 2015 you have the choice of

  1. applying for the visa online via the Kenyan eVisa portal www.ecitizen.go.ke; or
  2. by applying at the border on entry; or
  3. by applying in person at the Kenyan Consulate/ High Commission/ Embassy in your country of residence.

If you are visiting Kenya on or after 01 September 2015 you must obtain your eVisa in advance via the online portal www.ecitizen.go.ke. You are advised to register your application well in advance of travel because we are told approvals may take up to seven (7) days to process.

We regret the late notice of the new requirement but we believe that in the long run the online facility will benefit everyone because it reduces the amount of cash it is necessary to carry to Africa. We regret any inconvenience caused by the new requirement but we trust you will understand that African Travels has no control or influence over the Kenyan authorities’ decisions regarding the visa application process.
