What is the difference between responsible tourism and sustainable tourism?

8 June 2015

The goals are the same. Responsible tourism is a more encompassing term that includes travellers’ responsibilities towards sustainable travel.

Sustainable Tourism regards the three pillars of sustainability: environment, local community and economy as basis to tourism development. Responsible Tourism is related within travellers actions and consciousness; which efforts they should do to protect and conserve their destination without step in the local, natural and cultural ecosystems.

So in short…Sustainable Tourism offers a well defined product that offers the client the opportunity to act responsibly while with Responsible Tourism puts the onus on the client and their actions which includes the selection of a sustainable product that enables them to act responsibly.

Solar power safari vehicles

At African Travels we promote both of course and we are still waiting for the day – or anyone who would like to take the journey with us – to use solar power based safari vehicles in the national park. We think it is crazy that today we are still using these terrible diesel cars to polute the parks, flora and fauna.
