Deze kleine groeps kampeerreis start in Livingstone en eindigt in Johannesburg. Met deze zeer afwisselende safari reis je door het hart van Malawi en Zambia om vervolgens via Mozambique naar Zuid-Afrika door te reizen. De hoogtepunten bestaan onder meer uit de Victoriawatervallen, een kanosafari over de Lower Zambezi, game drives in South Luangwa National Park, Lake Malawi en het Kruger National Park in Zuid-Afrika!

Accommodatie

16 nachten op campings. De campings zijn voorzien van een warme douche; Let op: één van de campings is erg basic! De overige nachten in chalets met gedeelde badkamers. Een essentieel onderdeel van de safari is het deelnemen aan bepaalde werkzaamheden, zoals het opzetten van de tent en het inpakken van de truck in de ochtend – het is allemaal onderdeel van het avontuur. Je reisleiders zullen bij deze reis de maaltijden bereiden, maar we vragen de reiziger om mee te helpen met de afwas (op rotatie). Er zijn een aantal lange reisdagen die zeer vroeg starten en dan is het heel fijn als iedereen zijn bijdrage levert zodat de dag efficiënt te laten verlopen. Transport: het merendeel van deze reis reis je in een comfortabele safari truck met 12 naar voren staande stoelen.

Kinderen van 12 jaar en ouder zijn meer dan welkom mits ze samen met de ouder(s) reizen. Wanneer je ouder bent dan 65 jaar is helaas een gezondheidsverklaring noodzakelijk.

Hotel Pickup

Deze reis start om 14:00 uur op dag 1 van de tour vanuit Livingstone. Veel vluchten arriveren in de ochtend in Livingstone dus je kunt met de ochtendvlucht arriveren. Eventueel kun je in Victoria Falls aankomen, maar dan heb je een extra visum nodig. Indien je een extra nacht (Pre tour bij de Waterfront) zou willen bijboeken, dan kan dat via ons!

Day 1 - 2 LIVINGSTONE [camping Bx1 - -]

(B= breakfast, L= lunch, D= dinner)
The group will meet in Livingstone, in Zambia, at 14:00 where we have 2 days to explore Victoria Falls, a natural wonder of the world, plunging into the Zambezi Gorge. Adventure activities abound, white water rafting on the mighty Zambezi, or a 111m bungi jump (own expense).

Day 3 KAFUE RIVER [camping BLD]

A long drive takes us across the rolling Miombo forested hills of southern Zambia to the Kafue River where we camp the night.

Distance/time: ±505km, 8h00 actual driving time, a long driving day along very scenic and bumpy roads we stop for sightseeing and lunch, we expect a travel day of ±10h00.

Day 4 - 5 LOWER ZAMBEZI CANOEING [camping BLD]

We paddle down the mighty Zambezi River, home of the tribal mythical god – Nyami Nyami. Canoeing past local riverside villages and magnificent scenery. We camp wild on an island in the heart of untamed Africa. The following morning we continue our canoe safari through an area teeming with elephants, hippos and other wildlife. We will be collected by a motorboat, and are transferred back up river to our starting campsite.

Overnight: Camping – on day 4, we camp wild on an island in the Zambezi River, on day 5, we stay in a designated campsite, with good ablution facilities, with hot showers, swimming pool & bar.
You will need to bring your own towel.

Day 6 LUSAKA – GREAT EAST ROAD [chalet BLD]

We head to Lusaka where we stock up on supplies in the bustling shops and markets of the Zambian capital. Taking the Great East Road we drive this afternoon until sunset. (This is a very long day of travel but this also allows us to get to South Luangwa sooner on day 7).

Distance/time: ±570km, 9h30 actual driving time, today is a very long travel day as we try to get as far as possible today, to maximise our time in South Luangwa tomorrow, expect a long travel day of ±10h00.
Overnight: Chimwemwe Lodge – twin standard rooms en-suite, restaurant & bar.

Day 7, 8, 9 SOUTH LUANGWA NATIONAL PARK [camping BLD]

Make our way down into “the valley” of the South Luangwa National Park. This remote region is one of Africa’s finest wildlife sanctuaries where hippo, elephants, lion and leopard abound. We camp on the banks of the Luangwa River and explore the area on 2 game walks and 2 open 4WD game drives, one at night with spotlights, to see nocturnal animals. (In the green season, Dec–Apr, walks may not be possible in which case we’ll do extra game drives).

Distance/time: ±330km, 5h00 actual driving time on day 6. There can be potholes and the road down into the “valley” is hilly and slow, we expect a travel day of ±8h30.
Optional Activities: Game walks & game drives.
Overnight: Campsite – good ablution facilities, hot showers, swimming pool, restaurant & bar.

Day 10 - 11 LAKE MALAWI [camping BLD]

Malawi “the warm heart of Africa”. We re-stock with fresh supplies in the markets of Lilongwe before heading to our camp on the beach at Lake Malawi. We’ll take a boat out to the islands to explore the fantastic bays and coves in the area.

Distance/time: ±510km, 7h00 actual driving time, today is a slow day and the border crossing can have delays, so we expect a long travel day of ±9h30.
Overnight: Campsite – good ablution facilities, & hot showers.

Day 12 - 13TRANSIT MOZAMBIQUE [camping BLD]

Heading south again we enter Mozambique at Zobue border post. Making our way back over the Zambezi we travel through the Tete region, camping en route in this remote part of Mozambique. (Campsite facilities are very basic.)

Distance/time: Day 12: ±400km, 7h00 actual driving time, we head south on a transit day, the border can take some time so we expect a travel day of ±9h30.
Day 13: ±400km, 7h00 actual driving time, we continue towards the coast on potholed roads, we expect a long travel day of ±8h30.
Overnight: Campsite – very basic ablution facilities, & hot showers (sometimes!).

Day 14 - 15 BAZARUTO ISLANDS [chalets Bx2 Lx2 Dx1]

Upon reaching the Indian Ocean we stay overnight in Vilankulos. We take a full day to explore the Magaruque Island on a local dhow, a traditional ocean going trade vessel. Beautiful blue sea, snorkeling, expansive white beaches and some excellent seafood available – what a day!

Distance/time: ±530km, 6h00 actual driving time, the road today has many potholes and we go very slowly at some points, we expect a long travel day of ±8h30.

Overnight: Sailaway – for 2 nights in Vilankulos we stay in twin rooms with en suite facilities. Swimming pool, bar, restaurant, telephone. Wifi not available.

Day 16 - 17 INHAMBANE [chalets Bx2 Lx2 Dx1]

Arab influences are strong in Inhambane dating back to when slaves, ivory, gold and spices were traded. Explore Inhambane and its 200-year-old cathedral, before moving to our accommodation next to the beach. Dhow rides and scuba diving on coral reefs are available (own expense).

Overnight: Bayview Lodge – for 2 nights in Inhambane (Praia do Tofo / Barra) we stay in en-suite rooms. Bar, restaurant, telephone Bar, restaurant, telephone. Wifi not available.

Day 18 CHIZAVANE [casitas BL-]

We turn south along the coast to a secluded fishing lodge on the beach north of Xai-Xai. The lodge is perched on the coastal dunes with a magnificent view of the surrounding natural bush and expansive beach. Low tide exposes a long rocky reef parallel to the beach, which creates a shallow, calm pool ideal for snorkelling and swimming. For our last night on the beach, we enjoy a fish braai (barbeque) dinner at the lodge restaurant overlooking the warm Indian Ocean.

Day 19 - 20 KRUGER NATIONAL PARK [camping BLD]

We travel through the Transfrontier Limpopo Park into Kruger National Park – visit big game country! Exciting game drives to spot lions, giraffe and the mighty elephant. Relaxing in the tranquil bush we experience a land forgotten by time, a true African wilderness.

Overnight: Campsite – good ablution facilities, hot showers, swimming pool, restaurant, bar & shop.

Day 21 - 22 GREATER KRUGER – JOHANNESBURG – TOUR ENDS [lodge Bx2 Lx1 Dx1]

Departing Kruger, we overnight at a private game lodge in the Greater Kruger for our final dinner under the stars. The following morning we tour the Panorama Route, visiting God’s Window and the Three Sisters. We return to Johannesburg in the afternoon of the day 22, sun-tanned, laid-back and ready to rejoin life. Tour ends @ 17:00

Overnight: Makuwa Safari Lodge – for 1 night we stay in twin share bedrooms ensuite, for a chance to tidy up before flying out on day 22. Swimming pool. Wifi not available.

Please note: we do a free drop off at Johannesburg airport on day 22 at +/- 16:00pm so you can book your flight out for the last day of the tour.

Ik reis alleen. Is er een single supplement?

Wanneer je alleen reist word je ingedeeld met iemand van hetzelfde geslacht. Wens je een eigen kamer of eigen tent? Per reis zijn er een paar eenpersoonskamers onder voorbehoud van beschikbaarheid.

Welke valuta moet ik meenemen?

Voor deze tour is de ZAR het meest gangbaar. Een creditcard en pinpas wordt soms geaccepteerd in lodges, restaurants, activiteiten centra en supermarkten.

Zal ik een extra nacht voorafgaand aan de reis bijboeken?

We raden aan om de dag voor vertrek al aan te komen in Afrika. Deze boeken we op verzoek voor je bij (slaapzaal/dorm of eigen kamer).

Luchthaventransfer bijboeken?

We raden aan om via ons een luchthaven transfer bij aankomst te boeken. Iemand wacht je op met een naambordje. Hierdoor weet je dat je niet wordt opgelicht en naar de juiste accommodatie wordt gebracht.
