Departing Victoria Falls we drive south for Bulawayo, Zimbabwe’s second largest city. The gateway to Matobo National Park. The
afternoon is yours to explore at leisure. Bulawayo is a pleasant city with broad tree-lined avenues and wide-open spaces. There is a fascinating National History Museum, which recounts much of Zimbabwe’s traditional and colonial past; also, near the Old Town Hall there is a lively curio market, Mzilikazi Art and craft centre, a wide array of handicrafts and artwork are on display here made by skilful local craftsmen and women. After an entertaining day exploring, we retire to our accommodation, Travellers Guest House, providing a lush tropical garden ambiance. The establishment offers a sparkling swimming pool, garden terrace with firepit and it is conveniently located to nearby shops and restaurants.

Day 2Bulawayo - Matobo National Park - Bulawayo

Matobo National Park is located a short distance outside Bulawayo and knowledgeable guides will take us to this highlighted park. The wind sculptured Matobo Hills are the site of numerous Bushman paintings, and the area holds a special cultural and spiritual importance to the indigenous people here. The reserve has the largest concentration of Black and White Rhino in Africa and, provided conditions are right, our guides will lead us on foot to some of the more concealed places in search of these magnificent animals. Approaching these huge herbivores in their natural environment is a heart racing, breath-taking and memorable experience. The Park also has the densest population of leopard and black eagle in the world, and we keep our eyes peeled high and low for these creatures. We also keep a look out for giraffe, zebra, ostrich and a variety of antelope and buck species.

Day 3Bulawayo - Great Zimbabwe National Monument

Distance travelled: +/- 310 Km
Approx driving time: 5 Hours

Leaving Bulawayo, we cross towards the east of the country to the small town of Masvingo. Nearby is one of the most important
archaeological sites in Southern Africa: The Great Zimbabwe National Monument. Dating back to 1200AD this place was once the home to an indigenous population of some 10,000 people. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the area holds special significance to
the country. Legend says this was the city where the Queen of Sheeba resided and archaeological finds uncovered gold, coins, and porcelain from as far afield as Persia and China, highlighting the importance of the city as a trading post. We stay nearby for easy access and ample time to explore the ruins at leisure. Allowing the opportunity to trek to the top of the Hill Enclosure to enjoy a wondrous and spiritual African sunset.

There is the opportunity to try various (optional) activities here including bush walks, bird viewing walk, horse riding and an on-site spa. End the evening stargazing around an African fire pit.

Day 5Antelope Park - Hwange National Park

Distance travelled: +/- 450 Km
Approx driving time: 6 Hours

We leave the Antelope Park and head for the world-famous Hwange National Park. Zimbabwe’s largest and best-known game
park was (circa 19th century) the royal grounds of the Ndebele warrior-king Mzilikazi and in 1929 was set aside as a National Park. The Park covers an area of over 14,600 sq kms and is particularly known for its elephant populations. Hwange National Park is also renowned for its population of Wild Painted Dog. Unfortunately, the numbers of these animals are dwindling but conservation efforts have been stepped up and we will see the work of one of these projects in the afternoon before reaching our accommodation.

Hwange Painted Dog Conservation Project rehabilitates, and releases injured and orphaned wild dogs, as well as guiding the local communities in guardianship. This is extremely valuable work to preserve an endangered species thought to number a mere 3000 remaining individuals in all of Africa. Our accommodation for the night is at Miombo Safari Lodge, nestled among the trees. Offering a thatched main lounge, dining area, bar, social firepit, swimming pool & viewing deck overlooking a private waterhole in a bush setting of natural sounds and African wilderness.

Day 6Hwange National Park - Victoria Falls

Distance travelled: +/- 120 Km
Approx driving time: Morning game drive + 3 Hours

Today we transfer to 4×4 open safari vehicles and enter the Hwange National Park for a morning game drive. Located in the far
west of the country, Hwange sits in a remarkable belt of Africa, extending into neighbouring Botswana allowing animals,
especially elephant, to roam between Hwange and Chobe National Park. The Park contains over 100 mammal species including
Africa’s “Big 5″ (leopard, lion, elephant, rhino and buffalo), giraffe, cheetah, gemsbok and the brown hyena. Following our game drive, we head to Victoria Falls where we will enjoy a sunset cruise along the spectacular Zambezi River. Refreshments will be
available on board the cruise while we view birds skimming the waterline as the sun sets behind the African skyline. There may
even be the opportunity to see a variety of game; including hippo, crocodile, and elephant as well as enjoy the many different
bird species. After the cruise, a dinner on the riverbank may interest you, the establishment has a restaurant with a view like no
other.
