May 2022 | Tailor made South Africa

Marijnke and Marieke are incredible planners! 3 weeks South Africa with a family of 7, 3 people with various food allergies, many moving pieces and lots of big wishes and we could not have been more satisfied. The trip was one to remember for the rest of our lives. One unforgettable and beautiful experience followed the next. All the way we had support. When monkeys stole medication, Marieke was just a text away and within the shortest time we had the medicine we needed even though we were in the middle of Kruger Park! And this is just one example of the many ways in which this travel agency went above and beyond, in planning, in execution and in ongoing support. I’m recommending them to everyone I know. Wherever you live in the world, this is a great agency to travel in Africa with! A final note: They took special care that our tourism supported local communities, preservation and is sustainable. We learned so much!

Thanks again for all your help!

January 2022 | Tailormade self drive Mozambique and South Africa

Super nice travel organization, well organized and also very helpful and approachable during your trip. We definitely recommend African Travels!!

August 2019 | Botswana safari

We had a fantastic time and could not be happier with the mobile camping trip in the Moremi area. Kaiser, Moses and Lets were fantastic and we felt incredibly well taken care of. The scenery and game viewing also did not disappoint and we would high,y recommend using you to any of our friends and colleagues.

July 2019 | Group safari Namibia Botswana

All up it was an amazing experience… I will definitely recommend your company to any friends wanting to travel in Africa… and I will be in touch next time we come back (won’t be for a few years time yet unfortunately)

Thanks again for all your help!

November 2018 | self drive Namibia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Mozambique

Mozambique was fantastic. We’ve really enjoyed the last days in Villa Ukuthula. Maybe you can recommend this awesome place also to other travelers.

I’d also like to say thank you for the great support in planning our trip! It was just amazing!

Many many thanks!

September 2018 | small group tour Botswana Namibia

At a dutch holiday event they advised me, based on what I like to do and experience, an adventurous camping roundtrip in Namibia, Botswana and Zambia. They did not say anything too much: what a beautiful holiday this was with very varied landscapes, (big) game and culture. The highlights were in my opinion the Victoria falls, Etosha, the Sossusvlei, the Okavango Delta and Chobe. The travel period (September / October) was great: nice and warm on the day and not too cold nights. The tour operated by Sunway safaris was very well arranged and taken care of, the guides very knowledgeable and helpful and their ‘materials’ good. The travel pace was quite high, but no problem because everything is arranged.
African travels also booked the flight and prè-tour accommodation which was great to relax and do some excursions on your own in Zambia before traveling in the group. They gave adequate information by checklists and on demand.

August 2018 | small group tour

The communications were excellent-we were the only ones in our travel group who received updates (including hotel changes) prior to travelling. The service was fantastic from day one-no matter how many questions I asked, I always received a quick response. The tour did live up to expectations and in fact exceeded any expectations we had prior to travelling. We saw so many animals on this safari. There were a large number of tours in open tour buses with local guides and these were excellent. We also enjoyed the camping trip to the Okavango Delta and all its adventures.
Something that had nothing to do with African Travels were the tour guide and driver assigned to our trip and they were a disappointment. I think they are more suited to a younger travelling group (under 30).

July 2018 | self drive Botswana & South-Africa

We returned yesterday from a wonderful and adventures trip through Botswana and South Africa. All went well, nothing broke or got lost – not even a flat tire – and we are full of great memories for years to come. Thank you for planning and organizing.

March 2017 | Self drive Namibia

We used African Travels to book our family’s two-week self drive tour around Namibia. We really appreciate their service and support. The itinerary they designed flowed well and provided lots of fun for our family of four. The hotels they booked were top notch and had great amenities for our family. And, the truck rental company they contracted with was very professional. When we ran into a spot of trouble on the road, African Travels was very responsive and helped adjust our itinerary when we missed a travel day because of a flat tire. Great service!

January 2017 | group tour East Africa

Hey guys, thanks so much for everything. I honestly had difficulty answering the question about what i liked the most during the trip because i loved everything. Personally, i had one of the best trips one can ever have and almost didn’t want to go back home. Everything went smoothly; Joe, Mugo, and Isaac were absolute rock stars. I would love to get back on that yellow truck again one day 🙂

Once again, many thanks!

November 2017 | self drive South-Africa and Swaziland

Just back from an excellent 3 week holiday organised by African Travels. The trip was tailor made to suit our needs (travelling with a 2 year old). All of the accommodation and locations worked out brilliantly, it is such a child friendly country. Facilities such as childs high chairs and changing facilities in restaurants and shopping centres made the trip with a toddler a lot easier! I would definitely recommend this as a family friendly location, and the flight was also very doable!

October 2017 | Small group tour and private tour Namibia

Twice, in two years, I have used African Travels even though it is half a world and several time zones away from my home in Alaska. I do this because Marijnke responds immediately to any request I have—from the cost of a visa in Mozambique to whether the Intercape bus between Windhoek and Cape Town stops for meals. If she doesn’t know the answer to one of my questions—and I asked her many—she researches and gets back to me quickly. She has arranged both small-group overland safaris through six different countries and also solo travel in Namibia for me. Everything she booked went exactly as she said it would. Traveling solo can sometimes be daunting. Having a great travel agent makes it so much more doable. I highly recommend African Travels both for its knowledge of Africa and it’s commitment to its clients.

December 2016 | Self drive

Excellent company- highly recommended

African Travels (and Marinjke) provided us with an excellent and diverse itinerary for our fairly last minute trip to Southern Africa (from Cape Town to Victoria Falls and then back through Botswana). Marinjke was always on hand via email to provide comprehensive price breakdowns and helpful and easy to understand information. She was able to work to our dates and preferred locations and it made for a fantastic trip. The campsites particularly in Namibia were absolutely excellent and of a very high standard. Thank you African Travels for making a trip of a lifetime. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them!

December 2016 | group tour

Great travel agency. Quick response to all questions. And, because the agents know Africa, they gave me great advice as to where to go and where to avoid based on my preferences. African Travels made planning my six- week journey into southern Africa not only interesting, but also easy.

November 2016 | Self drive Botswana

A little belated but we did make it back in one piece! Just wanted to let you know that the trip went very smoothly, the campsites were superb and the trip mostly went very smoothly. The real highlight was Khumaga for us, driving conditions were much easier than Chobe, campsite was in a beautiful location and the game viewing along the river front was superb. The car was very reliable, we did make it to Zelda guest farm on the 25th and to the airport the next morning for an on-time family pick up! We will certainly return to Botswana, though likely booking earlier in advance, and we suspect the shorter Toyota Landcruiser with slightly larger wheels would be much easier than the Nissan for our next rental, as we did watch several cruise past us with ease in the sand on a few occasions! It also crossed our mind that the WeTu app could provide more information in terms of general guidance on getting to the next locations, what to expect on arrival etc., given the rest of the booking information is already on there. We really enjoyed the self-navigating and figuring things out along the way, so it was a minor point for our purposes.

Thank you so much for helping us arrange the self-drive trip with such short notice, and for the fantastic service & support along the way, we would be happy to recommend African Travels to anyone interested in a self-drive adventure 🙂

November 2016 | Krugerpark safari

We just got back from a fantastic South Africa. It’s been a great trip and the Kruger park safari was definately the highlight. The lodges were fine. The Katekani lodge was top notch! We were the only guests there and were well pampered. The guides were good, very friendly and knew so much about the bush. The transfers to and from Johannesburg all went well.

We definitely go back to South Africa or another African country. The people were so friendly and the country beautiful.

Thanks again for your help and advice. We will definitely come back to you for another trip!

October 2016 | Private safari Kenya

MIND BLOWING!

During the trip I have once again told Will that I didnt know how to put into words the rapid succession of events. I had already used amazing, unbelievably, great, fantastic, incredible, and then everything again with fucking and super for it. But I continued to amaze and be surprized by every experience, the people, the landscape, the animals. Once again a huge thank you, I really had a great week and will carry experience with me for the rest of my life!

October 2016 | Private safari Tanzania

Today we got home safely. Thanks to you and your team, we can look back on a beautiful, unforgettable trip, which exceeded our expectations. We were impressed by Tanzania, the people, the scenery and wildlife. Of course it was great to see the ‘big five’ and crossing the Mara river, but the encounters with extraordinary people, especially Ngomi’s mother, gave an extra dimension to the trip.

Thanks for taking good care and guidance, we where very pleased with the personal touch. Also many thanks that we had Frederick and David assigned as our guides. Both are very nice people and we could not have wished for any better companions. For the 10 days, David has provided us with humor and patience taught a lot of knowledge and he always knew how to find the best viewing angle for us.

September 2016 | Self drive Namibia and South-Africa

The trip was amazing and the 4×4 was the best way to discover Southafrica and Namibia. In fact, it was very difficult to say goodbye. We are very pleased with your service.

Hope to return someday!

August 2016 | Self drive Botswana

We contacted African Travels for our preparations for a private tour in Botswana and Zimbabwe. We never had any regrets about this decision. African Travels always answered all our questions with advice. They answered more than 100 questions promptly and correctly. Now that’s service! For our next trip (Namibia and Caprivi strip), we definitely go back enlist African Travels for all bookings.

March 2016 | Taste of Africa

I am back and landed safely in fact my parents are happy that I am home! 😉
I want to heeeeeeel very much for all your help !! I’ve had the trip of my life! Life on the truck I loved and planning was adjusted extremely well (for example, travel days and days of interest). I got along well with the group and the tour guides were very knowledgeable! The additional days in Zanzibar were relaxing, but rather I had gone along with the rest to South Africa. Unfortunately I could with my budget right now (and already booked return flight ticket) do not realize, but I will definitely come back for the rest of the safari.

December 2015 | Overland tour Nairobi – Cape-Town

The journey has been truly incredible and has surpassed all expectations! Reviews and photos coming.
Thank you so much for any help!

October 2015 | Kenya and Tanzania group

We had a super holiday. We have seen the Big 5 even 2x in one day. Super nice things we have seen; including a leopard pup was hunting lessons. It even had our Masai guide not seen before !!! The pictures I made them, are now available on the blog of the local partner.
In the beginning we had indicated our preference not go to camp, but it was 100% with it. And have never once used an upgrade (which we had seen the upgrades were also against). Easy to set up tents and fine mats we had at our disposal. Our group in Kenya was also super nice and cozy. The group in Tanzania was disappointing and so we stayed in our “Kenya” group.

Otherwise everything was well organized and we have no comments. We liked the personal contact with you is also very nice and we got a quick response to our questions / mails. We will certainly recommend you to our friends and acquaintances. Thanks again for the service!

October 2015 | Kenya and Tanzania group

Yes, we are back. We have a fantastic journey behind and are still busy processing all the beautiful experiences. Sorting the photos needs to be done, because we just have a good day to sit. In due time I will meet you some photographs. The migration we have unfortunately not on film or in pictures.

I want you on this route once again thank you for your support in our quest as well as answering all the questions we have put even further. That was very pleasant and you were very accessible. Again thanks.

September 2015 | Volunteering Lion Sanctuary

I had a great experience and special time with Kevin and gained a lot of experience! The fire was an experience and certainly has no negative feelings about the stay. All men and counselors were super friendly and everything is taken care of.

August 2015 | Self drive Botswana and Namibia

I’m still kind of acclimating. What a great trip this! It sounds cliché, but really it was one big highlight.

Full campsites (but two) were certainly no pun intended, rather a wake up call. In that respect, it was nice to have a home to helpdesk (African Travels :-)) to determine what to book in advance. When we did the riverboat cruise in Kasane we were, in retrospect, glad we were not in the Chobe safari lodge or Thebes. They did the cruise boats where up to 50 men were on, incl. Serving of liquor (you can imagine how that went around to after two hours). Kwalepe Lodge did the river cruise with a small boat where max. 12 persons could sit on. Ideal. The small boat was silent and could be anywhere in between.
This was our first African experience and we’ll definitely go back!

June 2015 | self-drive Namibia

We safely returned home, the car was super! Unfortunately during the last hour on the gravel road a stone flying up of an oncoming vehicle at the windshield, resulting in a star but fortunately we were insured.

April 2015 | 73 days Absolute Safari

Best Marijnke and William,

After a few days recuperating in the Netherlands (what a misery), I’m finally able to respond equally to your email. What was amazing and FANTASTIC (!!!) to travel 73 days in an overland truck through Africa. I would not have missed for the world and will recommend everyone to choose for you. Especially when I the trucks and travelers include Oasis have seen and heard so. Only positive signals from my side. From the first meeting with William on a volunteer meeting in Amsterdam, I was actually sold. His enthusiasm about traveling through Africa has just given me the push I needed to finally bite the bullet and go for it. From then on you, Marijnke, the baton about all practical preparations, information about tickets, visas, equipment, medicines etc. On each question on my part did you directly with appropriate and useful tips. You were always available for information, questions, suggestions, recommendations regardless of the time or duration of the information. Nothing but praise and compliments for your commitment and support. It was everywhere but so, so thank you so much for everything!
In short, a big compliment to everyone who contributed to this unforgettable journey, chapeau!

March 2015 | 73 days Absolute Safari

We had a great trip and have it almost on a daily basis about.
Our group was great, it was said on the first day we were a family …. So we had six kinderen.hahaha.
Everything was well organized, Thanks for this!
March 2015 | Volunteering Arusha

I am very satisfied with the service you have provided.
You have previously given good information about the project and my questions were always prompt, friendly and very complete answer. I have also found it nice that you made binding proposals for my journey after the volunteer project.
Finally, I found it very nice to receive a text message from you just before my departure and an email after my arrival. This gave me the feeling that I was not an issue and I if there were problems with you terechtkon.
In short, thank you! It was a nice experience to go with you on tour!

April 2015 | 73 days Absolute Safari

First I want to thank you very much for taking care about my trip. It was good before, during and after the trip to be guided by what was important for the journey through Africa. I have always felt that there was skillfully responded to my emails / questions. I noticed that you have much contact you have with partners in Africa and itself much sense to travel within this beautiful continent. Leading up to my trip is perfect guidance: the transfer from airport to hotel, the first hotel before the journey by truck began, the gorilla trekking and Zanzibar: it was all well organized !! Top service!

I had a great time in Africa! It was an adventure, an experience with very nice and fine people. A nice mix of different nationalities. Nature is overwhelming, culminating Gorillas in Uganda and the Serengetti in Tanzania. The tour guide was professional and enthusiastic. 2.5 months in a large yellow truck is an experience: camping, cooking together and drinking, very nice! In short: a trip to remember!

Marijnke again thank you for taking care! If friends or family are interested in traveling to Africa, I will definitely recommend African Travels.

February 2015 | Volunteering Izizwe

I found it exciting to work in the townships but when I arrived and it all came to me beaming kids run there, I had forgotten all tension. I had a great time. Also in the volunteer house was very cozy. Two weeks was way too short!

November 2014 | Volunteering Lion Sanctuary

Perfect aided by Marijnke, super experience as a volunteer with Kevin Richardson Wildlife Sanctuary happy until the next time !! Top 5 *

Ok, my life has changed my world is open! I will never be the same after this fantastic experience! All the wonderful memories I will always carry in my heart. What am I glad I took the step to volunteer to go to work with Kevin and his truly amazing animals! I am very happy that I have chosen for a project which has nothing to do with “ canned hunting` and absolutely no petfarm` and does not breed with lions for many hundreds die every year in the hunting industry. I had my `foute` project booked through a colleague at a petfarm, a large farm for lions and how glad I am that my eyes were opened in advance by information on the internet about what is the real purpose of this bred tame lions … I canceled immediately and then it was very difficult to find a project that is GOOD engaged in the collection, protection, care and conservation of wild and captive lions. I felt happy through good volunteersinafricabeware the `list` and on that basis to look for, however, proved more difficult to find an agent who offered these projects GOOD … it’s obviously much easier to lure tourists with pictures of cuddly cubs. Arican Travels .. I am so grateful that they DO make the difference and provide responsible projects but who are concerned with the preservation of wildlife !!! They are one of the few that offer the project to Kevin Richardson, whereby the service they give absolutely superb, top service and worth 5 stars !! I do not know what I do without all the support, information and advice from Marijnke should have done! And yes, I asked 100 questions … I received 200 answers I really had something, not even one time I noticed that she was tired of all of my questions 😉 I was reassured with patience and a lot of information for my first deep trip alone! They really know what they talk about, you feel and notice the experience and how professional they proceed. I am very pleased and could not have done better! I can and African Travels will recommend to everyone and recommend, I know at least where I need being a next time! I can only speak about my experience with African travels! I know Marijnke lot of work has done for me as a customer and I appreciate enormously !! My project was great, I really did not expect it would be so incredibly super fun !! Itself seemed to me to do a lot of work-work and little cute things … but good I was going to contribute to the preservation of its lions, leopards and hyena`s and not for pleasure. But the secret is that there are doing enough nice things, every Friday there was the braai (nice!), Sunday on safari (super!), Sundays at trip and eating out (so fun!), Lion walks sitting in the jeep ( amazing!), hugging and a picture with a leopard (great!) and so many more … but you have to experience for yourself before I verklap all 🙂 and of course it can be different every time! I have it clear, I 200% enjoyed every moment, made new friends, nice people, lots of laughs and fun together, seen crazy things and done bizarre things, learned a great deal, with the day I kept more and more of his animals and especially the lions really stole my heart and I miss them now that I’m back home. You really see that his lions and leopards hyena`s good they look great, hearty and healthy. I have felt very much at home on the Welgedacht Game Reserve, and that the staff and guides really did their best. Guides Jared, Jade, Kara and Lozanne are very nice, friendly and lovely people who really want to make sure you will have a memorable time with their heart in the right place … with a big heart for animals. I know I’m in good hands, but important to the animals there as well. It is wonderful to hear their stories and learn from their experiences. I even had the honor to meet even Kevin himself, he is very busy and does not live on the farm so it is no guarantee that you see him. But if you talk to him you can ask him anything and have discussions with him. I cuddle him live with his lions and it was fantastic! I have also helped with an official investigation into the cognition of the hyena`s there and that was interesting again! Well I can still write a book full … but I think I have enough positive and enthusiastic about all 🙂 Oja got a tip to stay for (again settled with African Travels) … City Lodge OR Tambo Jo`burg, what a luxury that I really needed after `s long trip from Norway. So African Travels, it was super thanks and keep it up !!!

October 2014 | Honeymooners

The car was neatly trimmed, very easy to use. For us it was the first time we drove in a 4×4 but with the explanation on arrival we effortlessly through all the parks (Chobe and Etosha NP) can ride. We were glad we were flown to Vic Falls and there the car was waiting for us. In Windhoek handed. It was a great holiday, including walking safari with Leon Varley!
October 2014 | Personal travel Uganda

We are more than satisfied with your organization. And we will certainly recommend you to friends and acquaintances! Thanks.
September 2014 | Mission Volunteer Vale tours Garden Route
I really had a super enjoying myself three weeks in Africa. Very much enjoyed and many beautiful things can see and experience. From the first moment to the last moment, everything was well organized, thanks for that!

During the tour, I also enjoyed huge and may see a very different side of Africa. Upon returning home I said to everybody: it was not a holiday but an adventure! And that is true. Townships, beautiful mountain scenery, wine tasting, robben island actually so many different things. Mission Vale is really fantastic to volunteer because it is so versatile. The last week I have almost only been working at the school and helped a little with the food parcels. Very nice experience!
Thank you very much for arranging everything!

September 2014

Both trips are fairly regular, and we would like to do again! We had fantastic guides who have completed the trip. The only one on / consideration for the water supply at River Horse. We were well aware that we had to provide their own drink if we wanted something other than water. But we did not necessarily expect that the water came from the river, though purification tablets be used. I do not know if it is located on the water, but I am two days (luckily if any) have not been feeling well.

Does my pleasure and experience certainly will not spoil, but can imagine that not everyone would react this way. We have also indicated to River Horse which for that matter five-liter bottles of water would be a safer option.

For the rest arranged everything fine. Thank you so much for this!

July 2014 – Volunteering Cape Town LOFDAL

Unfortunately, back in the Netherlands. We had a very nice week.
Many worked in the school and orphanage, helped with feedings.
A very special unique experience that we would not have missed.
One week was short, but what it can do!
Host family was fine. Staying with a woman around 50 in bungalow
good facilities. Indeed stayed another Dutch girl, which
we are much increased.
Thanks for your help, we look back on with a super feeling!

May 2014 | Roundtrip Nairobi – Cape Town and Modgaji

Thanks African Travels I enjoyed a carefree sabbatical.

I am five months for the first time been traveling alone through african travels. I have two overland tours made of three weeks and two volunteer projects for six weeks.
A great trip that I’ve made with Africa Travels. They ensured that I dared to go. This give that piece of eg a taxi service that is ready at the airport, or figuring out the safest way to travel in Zimbabwe. In addition they were during my trip also available for questions. And she lived with my journey. This I like very nice and above all safe ervaren.Ik going to continue to get used to and want to thank you sincerely for your support during my trip.
The fact that you could always reach me via whatsapp gave me a safe feeling!

January 2014 | Volunteering Modgaji

The highlight of this experience was the direct contact with the cheetahs and other animals. They are tame, you can make them hesitate to caress or beside them sit on the floor. Really amazing. Friendly staff and beautiful landscapes. We have a game drive done on site and also have been spotted close giraffes. The possibility of riding also exists (although I found the horses be on the thin side). There are recently born small caracals and hyenas. And the sky is beautiful (which in turn is an advantage if you at night to the toilet should be in another building;)) All in all it was really an experience to remember!

February 2014 | Volunteering Modgaji

Was super! Unforgettable amazing! A week outside living ‘rotate’ on the farm. See the animals up close in their natural environment! I have twice (over 3 hours), horse riding, great! So special and unforgettable!

December 2013 | Selfdrive Zimbabwe and Botswana

We recently rented a Toyota Hillux which we (4 persons) by South Africa, Botswana and Zimbabwe have traveled. Vehicle was neatly delivered to our lodge in Johannesburg with all the instructions and accompanying papers. The car was fine and met the requirements. Delicious independent National parks can ride !!
July 2013 | Group tours Nairobi – Livingstone
We are very pleased with the trip. I just asked the guys there and they agree. They were happy with Tim as a driver, because he is white / Caucasian, what was important for the boys. Tim is very clear and knows how to give an answer to every question. He has extensive experience. I thought it was nice that Tim himself stressed that it was my trip and I do not necessarily have to adapt to the group. At the same time I have been enjoying myself with the group.

Marijnke, thank you very much for contacting and organizing everything. In the beginning I was sometimes afraid that I was emailing with a fake person. I had no tangible evidence that you actually existed. From the contents of the mail I got confidence. But the transfer of the money was exciting.

I advise everyone who is independent and Africa this form of traveling to!
