VICTORIA FALLS

Zimbabwe

Victoria Falls

Victoria Falls or Mosi Oa Tunya, the smoke that thunders, sits on the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe where the Zambezi river drops 108 metres into the gorge. Victoria Falls, named after Queen Victoria are also known by their local name Mosi Oa Tunya, which literally translated means ‘The Smoke that Thunders’ referring to the coloumn of spray from the waterfall that can be seen from miles around.

Victoria Falls is undoubtedly Southern Africa’s adventure playground and some of the activities on offer are:

Bungy Jumping – White Water Rafting – Canoeing – Microlight fights – Helicopter Flights – Game drives – Wine drifts – day trips to Chobe National Park – Gorge Swing

Best time to visit Victoria Falls

The best time to visit the spectacular Victoria Falls is from February to May, directly after the annual summer rains, when the falls will be at its fullest. The flow of water over the Victoria Falls peaks in March at the end of the rainy season. At this time of year, you really know why the local name is ‘Mosi oa Tunya’ or ‘The Smoke that Thunders’!
