Mauritius is an island located in the Indian Ocean. It’s the perfect destination after a safari trip on the African continent. You can relax here perfectly fine on one of the magnificent beaches, but for those who would still like to do some activities, Mauritius can be perfect as well. There are multiple hiking and walking trails. Also mountainbiking is possible! This can be done in Black River Gorge National Park for instance.
The capital of Mauritius is Port Louis. About 150.000 people are living in this city, which is located on the North-West coast. This city is perfectly made to walk through in order to enjoy some fine neighborhoods and museums, like the National Historic Museum for instance.
Besides all the fun activities that can be done on the island, Mauritius is mostly famous for its white, sandy beaches and all the activities that can be done in and near the ocean. Ofcourse, you can enjoy some relaxtion on of the beaches, but it’s also possible to jetsky, dive, snorkel or swim. Mauritius has many great divingspots, where you can enjoy incredible coralreeds. The most popular and maybe best beaches are Pereyhore and Flic en Flac, among many other beautiful ones, which are definitely worth a visit too.
The climate on Mauritius is very nice. The average temperature is 26 degrees celcius and doesn’t rain very often, although there is always a chance for a heavy rainshower. The biggest chance for these tropical rains to happen are in the period from December until April. The dryest months are by far September and October.
Ofcourse, it’s getting harder and harder to predict the weather accurately, as the climate is changing unfortunately. It also depends a little where you are on the island. The north is where you can find most of the beaches and the weather is mostly very good here. The eastern part of Mauritius can be a lot windier compared to north, especially during the winter. The south of Mauritius is very famous for its steep cliffs and rocks, which are worth a visit. This area is, just like the west of Mauritius, quite dry and hot. This area is good for kitesurfing for example.
Mauritius could be visited as a beach holiday on its own or as an add on after a safari on the main land of Africa (kostly South-Africa). It is well developed, lot’s of beach resorts and not as remote as the Seychelles. Every holiday will be tailor made for you.
