ANDASIBE MANTADIA NATIONAL PARK

A place of great beauty and biodiversity

Andasibe-Mantadia National Park

Stretching across 154 square kilometres of eastern Madagascar, Andasibe-Mantadia National Park is a place of great beauty and biodiversity. It is divided into two distinct sections: the smaller Analamazaotra or Perinet Reserve to the south and the larger Parc National de Mantadia to the north.

The region is swathed with thick tropical rainforests made up of lush ferns, tangled lianas, hundreds of orchid species and myriad other jungle flora and teeming with a diverse array of endemic wildlife. You’ll know you’ve arrived when you hear the peculiar call of the Indri, the largest living lemur in existence, which can reach up to one metre in height. Visitors can enjoy spectacular hikes, discover hidden waterfalls, and hunt for rare orchids.

Best time to visit Andasibe National Park

The best time to visit Andasibe National Park are September and October. The tourist season starts in April, the peak season is during summer in July and August and the best months are September and October. This is the end of the dry season with very few mosquitos around.  There is also a small chance to spot newborn baby lemurs during these months.

Explore Madagascar

Madagascar has many different climate zones. This makes the landscape very diverse: from the fertile highlands to the dry south, and from rainforest to tropical coastal areas and idyllic beaches with many sailing, diving and snorkeling opportunities. Every year, humpback whales look for the rich underwater world during their migration. This ‘red island’, as Madagascar is also called, houses a dozen beautiful nature parks. It contains many endemic flora and fauna: plants and animals that only occur in Madagascar. A part of it lives nowhere else in the world, like many species of half apes, reptiles (including chameleons), orchids, palms, not to mention some species of the sacred baobab tree. The island is also a paradise for birdwatchers. Rice is grown on a large scale and you can even find tea plantations. In Madagascar you are in all respects between Asia and Africa. ‘A continent in itself’.
