Comfort and service in the wild
African Travels takes the view that your accommodations are just as important as the safari itself. That is why we make sure that the accommodation we book for you is of excellent standard. Virtually all accommodations are built according to the same principle, in a central location, with a partly open restaurant surrounded by a varying number of guest rooms sleeping two or more people. Each room has its own bathroom facilities. What they all share in common is the incomparable, unique safari atmosphere. The rooms are decorated with natural materials and colours, with romantic mosquito nets draped over large beds with soft and comfortable duvets and lovely crisp linens. Imagine watching the sun set over the breathtaking landscape, or chatting by the fire al fresco, under the stars. These memories will last you a lifetime. At night, you will sleep like a baby, and if you don’t, you can listen to the orchestra of the wilderness. Can you hear the elephants, the lions or the hyenas? Dinner and breakfast offer a wide choice of African and western dishes, usually served as a buffet. More and more accommodations feature swimming pools.

Welcome in Tanzania! You will be welcomed by our transfer. The next day you can relax and acclimatize, enjoy the beach and pool after your long flight.
At 8 a.m. you will be collected by your driver guide. Drive to Selous will end in a game drive closer to the park, about 7-9 hrs drive. If this is too long, we can book a charger flight to Selous to start your safari from there.
Enjoy the next couple of days in Selous.
The remote and little-visited Selous Game Reserve covers more than 5% of Tanzania’s total area and is the largest of its kind in Africa. At an unbelievable 55,000 sq km it is almost twice the size of Belgium and four times larger than the famous Serengeti in the North. The landscape here has remained almost as it was before tourism began and the massive park has only a few accommodation options. The Great Rufiji River and its tributaries are the lifeblood of the reserve, creating a network of forests and woodlands around the lagoons, sandbanks and lakes with tall palm trees adding to the scenic splendour. Because of its size and remoteness, the reserve has over 2,100 species of plants, 350 species of birds, 60,000 elephant, 108,000 buffalos and an estimated 1,300 of the worlds’ roughly 4,000 remaining rare wild dogs, giving guests an opportunity to glimpse all of these exotic animals in true unspoilt wilderness. Boating, walking safaris and fly camping are all available in the Selous.
The next couple of days you will spend in the unspoiled wilderness of Udzungwa Mountains National Park. This is a long days drive, about 7 hrs, but a beautiful rural part of Tanzania.
Spread across the Eastern Arc Mountains, Tanzania’s Udzungwa Mountains National Park boasts a diverse range of natural habitats including tropical rainforest, mountain forest, miombo woodland, grassland and steppe. This vast expanse of unspoiled wilderness serves as a habitat for over 400 animal species.
Your guide will drive you to your next stunning wilderness destination: Ruaha.
Following its recent expansion, Ruaha is currently East Africa’s biggest national park and the second-largest on the African continent. It is also Tanzania’s most sizeable elephant haven and home to a profusion of bird species, including kingfishers, plovers, egrets, hornbills and sunbirds.
To finish your safari you will explore Mikumi National Park. It will not be as impressive as your previous safaris but the park has its charm.
Situated just 300 kilometres away from the capital, Mikumi is one of Tanzania’a most accessible national parks, composed of low-lying wetlands flanked by mountains on either side.
Time to go home. Your guide will drop you off at the airport of Dar es Salaam.
On request we can book a Zanzibar or Seychelles extension.
