Itinerary

Day 1Nairobi

Welcome to Kenya! On arrival you will be met by our local partner and transferred to the accommodation. The evening/afternoon is then free to relax after the flight. There are numerous restaurants in the vicinity.

Day 2Sheldrick Wildlife Trust & Nairobi Highlights

After breakfast you will leave for Sheldrick and pay a visit to this special project. Then you travel on to the giraffe center, you can have lunch at Karen Blixen (famous for the movie Out of Africa) and possibly visit a bead factory. You could also do a township tour.

Day 3Wild water rqafting or Kayaking in Sagana

After breakfast the adventure begins. About 1 hour from Nairobi you will reach Sagana, a small town that takes its name from Kenya’s second longest river Sagana. Choose from white water rafting in Sagana to kayaking through the Sagana gorges and also Zip-line trail. You will definitely like all the activities. In the late afternoon, continue your journey to Nyeri for dinner and overnight.

Day 4Ol Pejeta Conservancy

After breakfast, drive to Ol Pejeta Conservancy, a beautiful private game reserve and home to rare species such as Beisa oryx, Rothschild’s giraffe and black rhinoceros. During the game drive you will have the chance to see the full range of African wildlife such as lions, leopards, cheetahs, elephants and hippos.
Other optional activities include bird watching walks. Horse riding is also an option.

Day 5Ngare Ndare Forest

In the morning you will drive to Ngare Ndare Forest, a hidden gem of Northern Kenya. Mainly frequented by locals and residents who know of its existence, the forest is known for its azure waterfall and rock pools. Many elephants live here. The lush greenery spreads among the tall trees covered with moss. The sun makes its way through the hanging branches (100% sure Tarzan lives here and swings on the vines!), and hundreds of butterflies flutter around as you walk past. The Ngare Ndare canope trail runs here 10 meters above the ground. It is a suspended walking trail that takes you 450 meters into the forest, above and through the tallest trees.

Alternatively, you can spend another day to visit Ol Pejeta and the Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary or book a camel ride.

Day 6Lake Nakuru National Park & Thomson's Falls

After breakfast, cross the Equator south and visit Thomsen Falls for lunch before driving through the Rift Valley to Lake Nakuru. Lake Nakuru National Park was created to protect the giant flocks of flamingos. With more than 1 million flamingos, the shore of the lake turns pink. Spot the hippos and clawless otters in the lake. Waterbuck, bohor reedbucks and zebras graze on the banks. This area is home to black and white rhinoceroses. In 1987, only two black rhinoceroses remained due to the devastating effects of poaching. By establishing a rhinoceros sanctuary in the park and crossing several from Laikipia, the Kenya Wildlife Service (K.W.S.) has successfully reproduced rhinoceroses in the park. Wildlife spotting is relatively easy and will be possible until sunset. Buffalo, leopard, lion, red-shielded giraffe, colobus monkeys are plentiful. In the undergrowth you’ll find Eland antelope, ibex, impala, Chandler reedbuck and dikdiks, while rock hyrax and cliff duiker can be found on the cliffs and embankments. Another highlight of the park is the Euphorbia Forest – the largest in Africa.

Day 7Safari in the Masai Mara

This is home to the largest concentration of large mammals and is often known as the ultimate safari destination in Africa. The park is the northern extension of the Serengeti-Mara ecosystem, known for the annual wildebeest migration. With a game drive on the way you will be brought to the lodge. After you have checked in, a hot lunch is on the program. Later in the evening, another game drive takes place in this spectacular place. Enjoy endless plains, and of course lots of wildlife.

On the way to the Masai Mara you can stop at a Masai settlement. Our guide knows the less touristy places.

Day 8Masai Mara

Today you have a full day to enjoy endless safaris through the Masai Mara. You will see elephants, giraffes, lions and thousands of impalas, topi and thomson gazelles. Birds are also well represented, including migratory birds of which over 450 species have been spotted, including 57 birds of prey. The Mara is the scene of the annual migration of millions of wildebeest from the Serengeti plains in search of water and grasses.
Book an optional hot air balloon safari followed by a gourmet champagne breakfast. You can also visit a Maasai village and enjoy entertainment with Maasai dancing.

Day 9Boat cruis Lake Naivasha

Leave the Masai Mara and travel on to Lake Naivasha. A completely different landscape than the previous ones. The second Rift Valley Lake on your tour, where you will be taken to Crescent Island. The tour usually lasts 2 hours and you can explore both the lake and the island with all the birds and animals. Once you arrive on the island, meet the guide at the pier. Your guide will show you the best animals: giraffes, hippos, Grant’s gazelles, the fox and maybe even the rare pythons. The boat will take you back to Lake Naivasha Country Club where you will have lunch. The rest of the day is at leisure.

Day 10-15Beach days Diani Beach

You will drive to Nairobi in the morning and take the afternoon train to Mombasa in First Class. The new railway runs right through Tsavo East National Park. On arrival you will be taken to the lodge (via a ferry). This lodge includes many activities offered by the lodge. Kinondo Kweto is run by a local couple who live there with their children. The green gardens, swimming pools and white sand beaches will feel like a wonderful home. A yoga deck, fresh meals, horses, sailboards and snorkeling equipment are all at your disposal.

Alternative larger resort
An alternative is Tiwi, a small coastal town in Kenya, south of Mombasa. The sleepy, shady and secluded contrast to nearby Diani Beach, Tiwi offers a lovely, peaceful cottage-like oceanfront escape. The wide, white beach is dotted with skinny palms. Tiwi also has a beautiful coral reef, part of which is teeming with starfish of all shapes and colors. A stable, pool-like area between the shore and the coral is great for swimming and snorkeling. You will stay at the beautiful Amani Tiwi Beach Resort, which offers you 5 restaurants, 4 bars, themed kids club, diving Dive Padi Course Dive School, floodlit tennis courts, separate vegetarian kitchen, 167 meter swimming pool with three islands.

Want to experience even more wildlife? Then book an extra safari to Shimba Hills.

Day 16End of itinerary

Our transfer will drop you off in Mombasa for the flight home.

Alternatively, a domestic flight to Nairobi from Ukunda Airstrip is 5 min from the lodge.
