African Travels takes the view that your accommodations are just as important as the safari itself. That is why we make sure that the accommodation we book for you is of excellent standard. Virtually all accommodations are built according to the same principle, in a central location, with a partly open restaurant surrounded by a varying number of guest rooms sleeping two or more people. Each room has its own bathroom facilities. What they all share in common is the incomparable, unique safari atmosphere. The rooms are decorated with natural materials and colours, with romantic mosquito nets draped over large beds with soft and comfortable duvets and lovely crisp linens. Imagine watching the sun set over the breathtaking landscape, or chatting by the fire al fresco, under the stars. These memories will last you a lifetime. At night, you will sleep like a baby, and if you don’t, you can listen to the orchestra of the wilderness. Can you hear the elephants, the lions or the hyenas? Dinner and breakfast offer a wide choice of African and western dishes, usually served as a buffet. More and more accommodations feature swimming pools.
Today your safari starts! We will collect you from your lodging in Arusha and transport you to Tarangire National Park, one of Tanzania’s largest national parks situated in the Manyara region. This park is renowned for the Tarangire River, which flows consistently throughout the year and serves as the sole water source for wildlife during dry seasons.
Following breakfast, we will embark on a journey to Serengeti National Park in the Central Seronera region. This park is renowned for its robust population of resident wildlife, particularly the “Big Five”: Lion, Leopard, Elephant, Rhino, and Buffalo.
Lions: Serengeti is believed to host the largest population of lions in Africa, owing in part to the abundance of prey species. More than 3,000 lions thrive in this ecosystem.
African Leopard: These elusive predators are frequently spotted in the Seronera region and are dispersed throughout the entire national park, with a population of approximately 1,000.
Serengeti, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is home to around 200,000 zebras and 300,000 Thomson’s gazelle, joining the wildebeest in their trek for fresh grazing. Immerse yourself in the exotic sounds of over 6 million hooves pounding the open plains of Serengeti, just as you’ve envisioned African wildlife to be.
After breakfast, we will depart for an early morning drive to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area for a game drive. This site, another UNESCO World Heritage Site, is situated to the west of Arusha, encompassing the stunning Ngorongoro Crater.
The highlands of Tanzania surround the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, named after the Ngorongoro Crater, which holds the distinction of being the world’s largest caldera. The breathtaking landscape of Ngorongoro, characterized by vast expanses of highland plains, coupled with a remarkable concentration of wildlife totaling around 25,000 animals, establishes this location as one of the most extraordinary natural wonders on Earth.
Following breakfast, our journey will take us to Lake Manyara via a visit to a Maasai village. The park is named after the Maasai word “Manyara,” which refers to the Euphorbia Tirucalli plant. The Maasai people utilize this plant to grow livestock stockades, as Manyara produces a stockproof hedge known for its durability. A specimen of Euphorbia Tirucalli can be found at the entrance gate.
The Great Rift Valley, part of the Earth’s crust fault line, stretches 8,000 kilometers (4,971 miles) from Turkey to the mouth of the Zambezi River in Mozambique. This massive fault is so significant that when astronauts landed on the moon, the Rift Valley was clearly visible to them.
In the afternoon, you will be transported to the airport for your flight back home, concluding your safari. Alternatively, you can opt to drive back to Arusha in the afternoon, bringing your safari experience to a close.
