The prehistoric-looking shoebill stork is one of the most sought after birds in Uganda, and the sanctuary is one of the only places where they can almost always be seen. The best time to visit Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary is during the dry seasons from December to late February and from June to September. This is the time the animals congregate around water, making them easier to observe.
