Formed in 2003, the Ai-Ais Richtersveld Transfrontier Park united Namibia’s Ai-Ais Hot Springs Park and South Africa’s Richtersveld National Park into a single, cross-country entity. Though it may appear barren at first glance, this rugged wilderness shelters an astounding profusion of endemic and indigenous plants that are adapted to the arid environment, as well as a wealth of small mammals and reptiles.
If you wish to see the desert flowers blossom, you need to go there in August or September. Hiking will be hot during the summer months (October – January).
In the Fish River Canyon you can encounter several species of mammals, such as Mountain Zebra Kudu, Klipspringer, Leopard, Steenbok, Baboon and Springbok. The most common rodents include mice, rats, dassies (hyrax).
Namibia has many highlights, ranging from wildlife in Etosha National Park, the third largest canyon in the world and the highest sand dunes!
