If you are going to Kafue National Park, you have to visit the huge open plains called Busanga. It’s in the north western part of the park. The southern park dense forests can be found mostly in the south of Kafue. Wherever the Lunga, Lufupa and Kufue River are flowing, the area’s are very green.
At plains of Busanga, you will find thousands of red lechwe’s, a special antelope. The puku, sable and roan antelope on the other hand can be found in the bush area’s. The biggest predators in the park are lion, leopard and cheetah. Because of the rivers many types of birds can be found! Over 400 registrated types of birds can be seen in Kafue.
The period from July to October is the middle and end of the dry season. The best wildlife viewing months are from July to October, as there is very little water to be found, and the animals hang around the places where they can still find water. However, October can at times be extremely hot.
In Kafue, 4 of the Big 5 can be found here, the one that is missing is rhino. The leopard and lion are quite often spotted here. There are lots of different antelope such as lechwe, puku, kudu, oribi, roan antelope and waterbuck.
