Khwai Community Area

The Khwai area of the Okavango lies along the northern boundary of the Moremi Game Reserve. This is an unfenced boundary allowing wildlife to move freely between the woodlands in the wet season when water is plentiful and back to permanent rivers and lagoons in the dry season.

The Khwai area offers the same wildlife experience as the reserve with the added advantage of being a private concession which means the ability to do walking safaris and night drives, booked via the lodges.

Best time to travel to Khwai

The best time to visit the Khwai is during the dry months, from May to the beginning of November. However, the winter months June to August are more comfortable as it is far cooler.  

Wildlife

This area is home to similar animals as Moremi Game Reserve, the only border is the Khwai River and animals do not know the difference! Monkeys, leopard, zebra, buffalo, eland, sable, kudu, tsessebe and wildebeest as well as elephant, hyena’s and giraffe are all regular visitors. Night game drives are permitted.
