Majete Wildlife Reserve

Majete Wildlife reserve is located closely to the city of Blantyre in the south of Malawi. Majete covers an area of about 70.000 hectare and it’s part of the Great Rift Valley.

The reserve is known for different natural phenomena; You will find big rocky mountains, but also little rivers are flowing through the landscape. The park had to fight against poachers for many years. Now that battle is finally won, the park is developing itself as a sustainable destination. Especially now the Big Five can be found again, the park is slowly but surely coming back to it’s old shape! In addition, Majete is the only park of Malawi where one can find the Big Five! It’s definitely worth a visit.

Best time to visit Majete Wildlife Reserve

April to October is warm, clear and dry with some rain in April. This time matches the best time for wildlife safaris in Malawi.

Wildlife

Nearly 5,000 animals of 16 species have been reintroduced including black rhino, elephant, lion, leopard, cheetah, sable antelope, and buffalo. The restocking of the park has led to Majete becoming a ‘Big Five’ reserve, and Malawi’s premier wildlife destination.
