During the dry season from August till October the animals are gathering around the river banks and waterholes. This is the best period to spot the greater mammals, like lions, leopards, buffalo’s and the puku.

Tourists can only access this magnificent private park via a safari operator, who can take them on exciting walking safaris through the park, where visitors will find themselves surrounded by pristine wilderness. North Luangwa provides a sanctuary for a plethora of wildlife, including buffalo, lion, hyena, wildebeest, bushbuck, zebra, warthog, baboon, puku, elephant, leopard, hartebeest, reedbuck and eland.
The period from July to November is the best time for this area. The best wildlife viewing months are from July to October, as there is very little water to be found, and the animals hang around the places where they can still find water. However, October and November can at times be extremely hot, make sure you can cope in hot weather like this!
Wildlife in this park is abundant. Elephant, buffalo, hippo, lion, crocodile, warthog, puku, impala, spotted hyena, greater kudu and eland are all common. Unique to the Luangwa are the Thornicroft’s giraffe, Cookson’s wildebeest and Crawshay’s zebra, which are found nowhere else.
