Visitors can enjoy an exclusive, peaceful experience with only a limited number of guests allowed in at one time. This malaria-free reserve forms part of the UNESCO-listed Waterberg Biosphere Reserve and is dotted with a number of luxurious private game lodges. Other commonly spotted species include: elephants, buffalo, giraffe, and warthog.
The best time to visit Welgevonden Game Reserve is during the dry winter months from May to September. At this time animals gather around predictable water sources and are therefore easier to spot.
Welgevonden is home to over 50 different mammals, including the Big Five, eland, duiker, cheetah, lion, leopard, elephant, white rhino, buffalo, sable, gemsbok, antelope, giraffe, warthog, bush pig, aardvark, and pangolin. It has one of the largest populations of white rhino on any private reserve in Africa.
You can spot the ‘big 5’ in Kruger, enjoy its Indian Ocean beaches, experience the country’s proud warrior cultures, visit some amazing cosmopolitan cities and enjoy the spectacular coastal scenery and diverse landscapes along the Garden Route.
