ROUTE 62

Dramatic scenery

Route 62

Route 62 might market itself as the longest Wine Route in the world, but that’s definitely not all there is to it. Lush greenery and fertile valleys form a stark contrast against the semi-desert of the Klein Karoo while towering mountains and their rivers and streams provide an awe-inspiring backdrop throughout.

Some of the renowned attractions visitors will spot as they follow the route are the winelands of the Breede River Valley, the majestic Swartberg mountains, the Cango Caves and ostrich farms of Oudtshoorn, and the fruit orchards of the Langkloof Valley.

Klein Karoo

Towering mountains provide an awe-inspiring backdrop throughout the Klein Karoo and their rivers and stream give the fertile valleys a lush greenery which forms a stark contrast against the surrounding semi-desert landscape. Some of the renowned attractions of the Klein Karoo are the majestic Swartberg mountains with awe inspiring passes and gorges, the Cango Caves and ostrich farms of Oudtshoorn, and the fruit orchards of the Langkloof Valley.

Best time to visit the Route 62

Route 62 can be visited all year round but the dry months are more pleasant as land slides do accur occasionally.
So September till May would be best. Average temperatures in Route 62 vary little. Considering humidity, temperatures feel nice most of the year, excluding some cold weeks in the winter, with a fair chance of precipitation about half of the year. If you’re looking for the very warmest time to visit Route 62, the hottest months are January, February, and then March. The warmest time of year is generally early March where highs are regularly around 80.6°F (27°C) with temperatures rarely dropping below 61.2°F (16.2°C) at night.
